I thought I should put in a plug here for a really great show on PBS Television. The Charlie Rose show. It is as quoted below, "the last refuge of intelligent conversation on television". No lies, no yelling.
The widespread praise that he has received for his television interviews indicates that Rose has earned a niche for himself in that place. As the uncommonly knowledgeable, intensely interested, enthusiastic, effusive, and earnest host of the PBS show that bears his name, he has provided viewers with what the television critic Marvin Kitman has labeled "talk, as it was meant to be" and has created what the broadcast journalist Morley Safer has called "the last refuge of intelligent conversation on television." "He has tremendous intellectual vigor," former secretary of state George P. Shultz told James Barron, who quoted him in The New York Times (June 13, 1993). Writing in the New Yorker (June 14, 1993), the media critic James Wolcott declared that "compared with nearly everyone else on the dial, Rose has substance, standards, decorum."
Another intelligent show on PBS is the Tavis Smiley show. Shown on WLIW21 Long Island Public Television. I first heard him on public radio 93.1 in NJ. Check out his schedule at www.Tavistalks.com
