Recipe for Sauerkraut mit Speck

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 lbs sauerkraut
3 onions
2 bay leaves
2 tsp caraway seeds
1/2 tsp sugar
2 tbls white wine
1 cup instant Maggi bouilion (Chicken or Beef)
10 slices smoked bacon

 Heat the oil in a saucepan and add sauerkraut.

 Peel onions, dice and add to sauerkraut. Place bay leaves in pan. Stir in salt, pepper, caraway seeds, and sugar - mix well. Cover sauerkraut with white wine and bouilion. Cover and simmer on medium-low heat for 30 minutes.

 Lay five slices of bacon over the sauerkraut and continue simmering for another 15-20 minutes. Serve warm.
